Prep Volleyball.Com Updates
Congratulations to the 2011 PrepVolleyball.com High School Volleyball Academic All Americans!!!
THIRD TEAM
Andrea Kacsits, 6-5 Sr. MB, Rockford (Michigan) – A leading front court force for the best team in Michigan, Kascits earned First Team All-State and Highest HM All-American honors after a season in which she amassed 555 kills, 106 aces, 162 blocks and 259 digs for the Class A state champs. Headed to Ohio State, Kascits, who possesses a 4.0 GPA, is a standout off the court as well. As a member of Youth Initiative, she helped build a house in Grand Rapids for Habitat for Humanity. From start to finish, Andrea organized and led a fundraiser in which Christmas trees were sold and several hundred dollars were donated in building supplies for this Habitat home. A National Honor Society member, Kascits was chosen as Rockford's Example of Excellence, an award given to one student in her 600-member class. “Although physically gifted and a talented athlete, Andrea's greatest strengths are rooted in her spirit, attitude and heart,” said head coach Kelly Delacher.
HIGHEST HONORABLE MENTION
Adrianna Culbert, 5-11 Sr. S/RS, Kellogg (Delton Michigan) – Named Highest Honorable Mention by PrepVolleyball.com, Culbert amassed 900 kills, 506 digs, 138 blocks, 419 assists and 162 aces for a Michigan Final Four team in 2011. The top 100 Senior Ace and Colorado State signee is a member of National Honor Society with a 3.610 unweighted GPA. She has been part of a Kellogg team that has garnered Academic All-State honors for the past three years.
Lauren Saar, 5-11 Sr. OH, Plainwell (Michigan) – A three-time First Team All-State and Three-Time All-City performer, Saar was a top talent for the Trojans, who advanced to the Class B quarterfinals in 2011. Recruited to Georgetown to be a libero, Saar grew late in her high school career and now could be a hitter for the Hoyas. She did both over her four-year career for Plainwell, finishing her career with 2,157 kills, 2,175 digs and 257 blocks. Academically, Saar has a 4.09 GPA, which ranks her in the top five percent of her graduating class, scored 30 on her ACT, is an officer in National Honor Society and a member of the Student Council.
Congratulations to Halle Peterson for being selected as a finalist for the Andi Collins Setter of the Year award!
Here's what Prepvolleyball.com had to say about Halle – Coach Kelly Delacher said that the Michigan State-bound Peterson is “the definition of a pure setter. She has incredible set location and runs the floor like a true quarterback. She is able to dissect a defense with her set selection and placement of the ball. She has the highest volleyball I.Q. of any setter that I have coached.” Peterson, whose ACL injury cost her last year’s playoffs, rebounded in 2011 to break the school records for assists in a season with 1433 and assists in a career with 2943. A First Team All-State pick, Peterson led Rockford to its first ever Class A state championship in dominating fashion, as the Rams won their last 34 matches and dropped just one set during the state tournament.

2011 In Review:
Final Prepvolleyball.com Rankings
16s - #5
"DFFO might be the national champions today if not for a perfect Union. Led by setter Katie Schau, MB Leah Perri, RS Kayla Morin and OH Amanda McKinzie, DFFO won both the JVA World Challenge and Dells Showcase events and finished third in the 18s Power League run by the Great Lakes Center, perhaps the most impressive feat of all. DFFO was rolling right along at AAUs, with eight straight wins, when a shocking loss to Union changed everything. Rather than getting a bye into the Championship bracket, with 1st Alliance, Wisconsin Juniors and Sports Performance only standing between it and the finals, DFFO had to play a Challenge match to get to the top eight. And not just against a good team, but an elite KiVA team. KiVA won that battle, 15-11 in the third, not only ending DFFO’s AAU dream, but also its dream of finishing No. 1 in these rankings. DFFO did shake off the KiVA loss with three straight wins to close the year, including a three-set win over Milwaukee Sting to finish ninth overall."
