Soph 79 List - We had two players earn Highest Honorable Mention. Click here to see the entire list.
Rachel Anderson, 6-2 MB, Sturgis (Michigan) - Named Third Team All-State and First Team AllConference, Anderson led her team in kills with 436 kills and blocks with 126. She also contributed
defensively with 72 digs and from the service line with 57 aces. As a two year varsity starter, Von Metzger
calls Anderson “a dominant hitter with tremendous athletic ability and huge potential.”
Madison Jaqua, 5-10 S, Portage Central (Michigan) – A Second Team All-State performer, Jaqua
recorded 1198 assists and added 114 kills and 67 blocks, guiding the Mustangs to a 38-13 record and a
trip to the regional finals. DFFO Club Co-Director Joe Steenhuysen says Jaqua “just gets the game,”
adding that she “has a true understanding of what it takes to make a team run.”
Academic All-Americans - We had several seniors get named to this list - Congrats! Click here to see the entire list.
Katie Schau - 2nd Team - 5-9 S, Gull Lake (Richland, Michigan) – No. 39 in the Senior Aces, this Minnesota signee recorded more than 1,500 assists as a senior for a 57-7 team. Great decision making, ball location and outstanding work ethic set her apart. Schau is a repeat First Team All-State pick in Michigan’s Class A. Schau also excels in the classroom, where her 4.1 GPA places her in the top 10 in her class. Academic All-State, she is an AP Scholar and member of the Student Senate. Said club coach Joe Steenhuysen: “A four-year starter, she never shied from hard work and competition, winning the starting role immediately. She also doesn't shy away from the hardest classes offered in preparation for her college education. She picked Minnesota not only for its volleyball history of excellence, but for an institution that will offer her the greatest satisfaction in her pursuit of a college degree. Katie is a great leader on the court, and a very no-nonsense leader who demands excellence from her team.”
Leah Perri - 5th Team - 6-0 MB, Gull Lake (Richland, Michigan) – A Clemson signee, Perri was a Miss Volleyball finalist in 2012 and earned First Team All-State distinction her final three years of high school. Academic All-State as well, Perri maintains a 4.046 GPA, is a member of NHS and an AP Scholar and has been a peer tutor the past two years. Said club coach Joe Steenhuysen: “Leah Perri, what an outstanding young lady! She's so ‘under the radar’ with her abilities but ask an opposing coach, the one they need to stop is Leah. With her lightning quick arm and fast off the floor approach, she's a double threat. Her classroom and ‘hallway’ attitude is just as outstanding. She's kind, considerate, mature and always puts the team or classmate first.”
Ally Kiekover, 6-0 MB, Forest Hills Northern (Grand Rapids, Michigan) – A four-year varsity performer and team captain her senior year, Kiekover put up a massive block and added 3.1 kills per game for the Huskies in 2012. Boasting a 4.1 GPA, Kiekover works as hard in the classroom as she does on the court. “She always strives to reach her maximum potential,” said coach Tracy Kirk. “Ally is a great role model to others.”
Amanda McKinzie, 6-0 OH, St. Philip Catholic Central (Battle Creek, Michigan) – A Virginia Tech signee, the smooth-attacking McKinzie led the Tigers to a seventh straight Class D title in 2012. The four-year starter has known only championships over her career, but 2012 was the best yet, as St. Phil finished 73-2-1 and No. 27 in the final national rankings. Named Michigan’s Miss Volleyball, McKinzie finished the year with 576 kills (5.1 per set played), 111 aces and 375 digs. Academically, she sports a 3.87 GPA, which places her among the top 10 in her class. She is a member of NHS. Said club coach Joe Steenhuysen: “At a high school with multiple state championships, Amanda has embraced the target placed on her back not only as an athlete there, but as a peer and student leader. She's compassionate, faith-filled, and understands the ‘bigger’ picture of her athletic career, which makes her humble, hard-working and true to her team.”
All-Americans - Every year Prepvolleyball.com selects a High School All-American list. Congrats to our players who made the list! Click here to see the entire list.
Pre-Season Rankings
Prepvolleyball.com has published the first rankings for the 18s division. DFFO comes in at #12 to start the year!
12. DFFO “Henry” (Michigan)
The Facts: Depth was a problem for this talented Michigan team last year but should not be in 2013, as three Michigan State-bound players join a very talented roster: seniors Megan Tompkins and Autumn Christensen, who can play middle or right; and pin player Holly Toliver, a Top 50 Junior recruit. The returnees include Katie Schau, the best senior setter in the state according to many; OH Amanda McKinzie, the state’s Miss Volleyball winner; superb middle Leah Perri, Top 100 Senior Ace Kayla Morin, athletic middle Ally Kiekover and libero Macy Steenhuysen, whose knee injury in the spring essentially cratered the high expectations for this team.
Anything Else? From Dunes last year to DFFO this year to Michigan State in 2014, you could write a book about Toliver’s travels.

Class of 2014 - Top 50 Juniors
Holly Tolliver, 6-2 RS, Berrien Springs (Michigan), Dunes –
Michigan State
Michigan State
Senior Ace - #39 Katie Schau
"Schau is the epitome of a “thinking setter.” Her decision making, coupled with
great ball location, set her apart. Schau plays the game at her pace and appears
always to be control of what’s happening on the court. Not only does she
possess all the skills to set at a high level, her work ethic and commitment to
excellence make her second to none. A winner, this returning All-State performer
has been on high school teams ranked at the top of the state and club teams
ranked at the top of the nation the past two years. Strong in the classroom,
Schau will take her talents to Minnesota next year. She could
be a four-year starter for the Golden Gophers."

Senior Ace - #50 Kayla Morin
"Morin is an extremely athletic six-rotation pin player with all the skills to
impact a collegiate program immediately. She is both capable of controlling
first contacts and scoring points, each at a very high level. Morin is
especially adept at attacking from the right side and used that ability this
summer as a member of the USA Junior National Team. Morin is a strong student, a
driven competitor and a team-first player who brings the best out of each of her
teammates. She will find the perfect environment for her talents at
Northwestern, where she has committed."
